He decides to hide Luke from the emperor, very well knowing the rule of two (where there are only two Sith – master and apprentice in the galaxy)

But Luke has a different plan than his father. He wants to turn his father to the light side as he can sense that there’s still good in him. Vader starts training Luke, and as the days pass, he is reminded of the time he trained Ahsoka.

All the memories of Ahsoka come flooding into his mind. All the battles they fought together.
Their connection as master and padawan, brother and sister, and best friends. Her saving and protecting him when he was injured. And that’s when he thought of Obi-Wan. His mentor, his brother. He always feels anger when he thinks of Obi-Wan and how his master, his best friend turned Padme against him and left him to die. All the thoughts and memories he suppressed come back to him. He uses this anger to teach Luke about the dark side. Luke, being a powerful Jedi, keeps his thoughts focused to the Force, its peacefulness and calmness, and doesn’t let his father betray his mind. He feels the fight between the light and the dark in his father. But he knows it won’t be easy to bring back his father. He would need help.

Darth Vader now leaves Mustafar to oversee the construction of the 2nd death star, leaving
Luke behind and instructing him to continue to train.

At this point, Leia is aboard the millennium falcon and is extremely sad about losing Luke and Han on the same day in the cloud city. That’s when she hears a voice, a familiar one Luke’s voice in her head. Luke asks her to travel to Dagobah, where he joins her, and they both meet Yoda. They discover they are brother and sister, and Yoda passes on to become one with the force. Luke and Leia together travel back to Mustafar.

When Darth Vader returns, he is astonished to learn about Leia. The moment he sees her, all
his feelings for Padme rush back to him. He is completely vulnerable now, and his emotions
completely cloud his judgment. He is completely torn between the light and the dark side.

Fast forward to a few days later, when Vader is training both Luke and Leia. Since they have the blood of a Skywalker flowing through their veins, their training proceeds at a fast pace, with both of them learning the lightsaber techniques quickly and learning how to use and manipulate the force.

Vaders travels to the death star become more frequent; during this time, Luke tells Leia the stories. Of their parents, of the clone wars, and the fall of the republic. Luke and Leia now have only one goal: to bring back their father from the dark side.

Vader’s feelings for the emperor also change, realizing that he can never truly beat the emperor alone. He realizes that he is a slave to the emperor, always doing the work assigned to him, and always following orders from someone.

One time, when Vader returns to Mustafar, Leia shows him her force ability. She has memories of her birth, of Padme giving birth to Luke and her. Vader looks at these force memories, of Padme saying, “there’s still good in him,” even after he had choked her. He can no longer handle all the feelings going on inside him.

He completely loses his mind and looks at his children, crying. For the first time in so long, since the clone wars, he feels the light in him. He knows that it’s good. It’s always been there inside of him, waiting to come out. He remembers the words of his master Obi-Wan saying that “Chancellor Palpatine is evil.” He understands everything. The darkness in his soul slowly starts to disappear. He is now Anakin Skywalker.

Anakin, Luke, and Leia travel to the death star to end the rule of the empire once and for all. Three of the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy turn to face the emperor. The emperor shoots them with force lightning, and Luke and Leia block it with their lightsabers. Anakin force lifts the Emperor and throws him down the reactor shaft to his death. This blows up the death star and brings an end to the empire.

Thus, peace is restored throughout the galaxy. The Jedi order is gradually rebuilt, and Luke and Leia grow to become two of the greatest Jedi of all time.

– By Pooja G, Third Year Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering

After accepting his father’s hand, Luke and Vader travel to Mustafar, where Darth Vader decides to train Luke using the dark side of the force so that he and Luke can defeat the emperor together and rule the galaxy.
