It had become a customary ritual for me to stay seated, waiting for the post credit scene to turn up. This time, over a thousand individuals had dedicated their minds to create the film I had just witnessed. Yet, despite their collective efforts, I found myself, once again, feeling dissatisfied. Lately, this sense of disappointment had become all too common; movies seemed to lack the heart and soul they once possessed.

As I sat there, memories of my dad’s cherished DVD collection flooded my mind. Those timeless classics, with their captivating stories, enveloped me like a warm, comforting blanket, lingering in my thoughts for days on end. The technology may have appeared outdated, but those films had an undeniable heartbeat. Oh, how I longed to experience them in a grand theater, surrounded by fellow moviegoers, all basking in the enchantment of cinematic storytelling.

Amidst the seemingly never-ending credits, I couldn’t help but wish for a remote control, granting the power to fast-forward through the multitude of names. It was a reflection of the modern era, where technology had bestowed upon us the ability to control the film’s pace from the comfort of our couches. With a few clicks, we could skip dull scenes or entire movies based on our whims. This newfound convenience raised a pressing question: Why bother going to the cinema when we could have it all at our fingertips?

The impact of the pandemic on the film industry couldn’t be overlooked either. Theaters had suffered a staggering blow, forever reshaping the cinematic landscape. As digital media flooded the market with an overwhelming abundance of streaming content, studios had started opting for safer bets, churning out endless sequels and spinoffs instead of nurturing originality. The quest for box office success took precedence over the pursuit of genuine artistic expression, leaving the industry feeling somewhat lost amidst the tide of familiarity.

As the credits finally dwindled, a post-credit scene teased yet another sequel, leaving me feeling uninspired and somewhat disheartened. Those five minutes sitting alone in the theater reinforced my decision to stay away from the big screen for a while. The word “content” had seemingly replaced the once-vibrant artistry and soul that defined movies – a loss deeply felt by cinephiles like myself.

Navigating the Modern Landscape of Films – Abhayjit Singh Gulati The screen slowly faded to black, and with a familiar hum, the credits began their upward crawl.
