Google comes up with wonderful opportunities for various CS based undergrads, and this time Google reached out to various colleges across India to promote the knowledge of android and application of CS concepts through a program named “Applied CS with Android”.
Being a pre-final student of Computer Science Engineering at National Institute of Technology, Karnataka and after hearing about such an opportunity through my department HOD, I applied for the role of campus facilitator at my university. After being selected for the role, I underwent a bootcamp at Google, Bangalore office, where along with other college facilitators, we had amazing fun learning and working together.
I had organised my first workshop at the campus with the help of “Association of Computing Machinery, NITK”. It was an overall wonderful experience which I feel every student must strive for. Right from publicizing the event at college, gathering and addressing a large group of audience, exploring my skills at teaching and people management, improving my technical knowledge during the course of every session of the workshop, this program helped me grow up not just as a CS student but to a complete individual with professional skills. It had similar effects on the students as well.
My major impact : Though it was great to see that a lot of my juniors and batch mates know me better after the first workshop, the one thing that I believe that I observe now is that the juniors are comfortable in reaching out to seniors with common interests with their queries/doubts and are starting to work together on few projects, just as they used to do, during the workshop sessions.
