You feel dazed. You feel like you’re out of breath. You feel empty. You feel horrible about yourself. You feel like you’re the root of all problems in the world. We’ve all been there. Yup, even the ones with the glittery Instagram posts and hundreds of likes on Facebook pics.
I feel like we need to have a conversation. Not your normal, I’ll insult you and you give me a comeback that leads to a pointless exchange of words getting meaner by the second conversation, a conversation at a deeper level, a conversation of the minds, a conversation of the heart.
Yes, the heart. Singular. I feel all of the different facades we put up all the time, they’re our primal demons. The heart is one. The desire to network, the desire to learn, the desire to love, the desire to laugh, is ONE.

In what world does ignoring a person you like to gain their attention make sense? When was the last time you told someone ‘I like spending time with you, we should do this more often’ when you genuinely liked that person? Yes. It would seem weird. But don’t you think that as a species which thrives on social validation for mental well being, we need to change that? Shouldn’t we start telling people we actually like them, to tell them that we found their small random act of kindness delighting or if you learnt something from just watching them go about their routine?
A common argument I hear every time I talk about this to anyone in my close circles is why I would want to mess with the normal flow of the world, why make things awkward. I only have one reply which, as a matter of fact, came as an answer to this other question I asked a lot of people sometime ago. It was “Would you prefer joy or happiness?”, the former being an instantaneous feeling while the latter involves being in the state of elation over time. Listening to different opinions and different viewpoints, I came to realise this very simple truth, Happiness in life is the sum total of everyday joys. So, being happy in the moment is the only important thing and the future will take care of itself.
So, next time, say thanks to that cab driver who maintains a good conversation, say ‘I Love you’ to your grandparents whenever you have a chance, understand that it is normal to say ‘ We haven’t talked in a while, and I really miss those conversations we used to have, so can we hang out? ‘ and thus, make someone’s day. Make people smile. Make people laugh. Laugh more. Smile more. Connect more. Listen more. At the end of it all, live for the moments and be prepared to fight death for them.
