What is it that gives us life?
Have you ever sat down and wondered what is it that makes you, YOU? Isn’t it just pure magic, a couple of single cells organisms can talk, walk, dance, sing, invent and do so much more! Does it even matter though? Does it matter whether we evolved from apes or that some divine being created all of this?
It is beautiful to be presented with the opportunity to live, and to live as a human. To be able to think and do so much, to be a part of such an advanced species. If you are reading this it means you are not only human (if you are not please reach out to me!) but a human with all the basic needs. Life is too short to get stuck at “why don’t I have the this” or “I wish I was there!” If you get too caught up with where you wished you were, you might not be able to get the best from where you are.
Be happy. Be happy for the breath you take every morning. Be happy that the sun shines on you every day and enjoy the warmth of the sunlight. Be happy that you have the opportunity to study. Be happy that you have people who care for you. Be happy for all the mistakes you made, for they are the reason you are what you are today. To my friend the one who shed tears when you board the bus from home, to my friend – who will hug his mom the next time after a few months, to my friend who will meet her siblings after this semester – I know its hard and sometimes you question yourself; “what am I doing here?” You have to realize that you are here for a reason, and one day you will look back at these days at NITK and think “those four years were one heck of a time.” You are here to live your life and you have only one of it (there’s no hit escape and type aspirin when you’re about to die); so live it to the fullest.

Talk to that girl who you think is cute, go play football and learn a new instrument; make new friends and travel and learn. Discover yourself. Go out there and find out where your heart belongs. Learn to look at the beauty and derive happiness from the smallest of things, to find happiness in helping, to find happiness in the happiness of others. There is no harm in being ambitious and having big dreams, but learn to be content with what you have and make the best out of whatever lies in front of you.
Today don’t stare at your mobile phone (after reading this article of course), don’t waste your time on reading Whatsapp forwards and seeing Instagram stories, don’t spend your time lazying around on that bed. Go out there and write you own story! You go get ’em tiger!
